Beginner

Beginner sewing patterns teach the most foundational sewing techniques. These patterns focus on the basics like sewing and finishing straight and curved seams, hemming, and simple shaping methods such as darts and gathers. In addition, beginner patterns omit closures, making them perfect if you are new to sewing or are looking for a quick and easy make.

Advanced Beginner

Advanced Beginner sewing patterns expand on the skills learned at the beginner level, helping you to build confidence and range as a sewer. You'll find simple knitwear projects, bias tape finishing techniques, and begin to explore closures at this skill level.

Intermediate

Intermediate level sewing patterns focus on more precision sewing. In this skill level, you'll learn specialty closures. Intermediate patterns also introduce the skills needed for simple lingerie and athletic wear projects.

Advanced

Advanced sewing patterns require great precision and time investment. You'll find tailored pieces in this category with elevated details like bound buttonholes and welt pockets.

Description

Woven sleeveless top sewing pattern

Riley is a woven boat-neck crop top with a cinched waist that looks great paired with jeans, shorts, and skirts or layered over dresses. To cinch the waist, thread a tie through a casing with two buttonhole openings at each side seam. This top is a quick, fun sew, finished with single-fold bias tape at the neckline and armholes.

Fabric & Supplies

Light to medium weight woven fabrics such as linen, chambray, batiste, lawn, voile, linen blends, rayon challis, cupro, and Tencel.

All-purpose polyester sewing thread, sewing machine needle, safety pin or bodkin, and 2 5/8 yards 1/2" (13mm) single fold bias tape

Refer to size chart for amount of fabric needed for your size.

00 – 30

Sizing & Fit

Janiah is wearing a size 0 graded to a 6 at the waist. We lowered the armhole and bust dart, made a broad shoulder adjustment, and added 3/4” to the body length. Her measurements are bust: 32" (81.3 cm), waist: 27 1/2” (69.9 cm), hip: 38” (96.5 cm), and she is 5’7” (1.70 m) tall.

Morgan is wearing a size 20 Riley top with no adjustments. Her measurements are bust: 48” (121.92 cm), waist: 41” (104.14 cm), hip: 52” (132.08 cm), and she is 5’9” (1.75 m) tall.

00 – 30

Sizes 00-18 (Misses) are drafted for a C cup. Our size 8 fit model is 5’8”. Sizes 12-30 (Curvy) are drafted for a DD cup. Our size 20 fit model is 5’9”. Learn more about our sizing here
