We created our skill levels according to the techniques required to sew each pattern, but our patterns will teach you everything so don't be afraid to sew above your skill level!

Beginner

Beginner sewing patterns teach the most foundational sewing techniques. These patterns focus on the basics like sewing and finishing straight and curved seams, hemming, and simple shaping methods such as darts and gathers. In addition, beginner patterns omit closures, making them perfect if you are new to sewing or are looking for a quick and easy make.

Advanced Beginner

Advanced Beginner sewing patterns expand on the skills learned at the beginner level, helping you to build confidence and range as a sewer. You'll find simple knitwear projects, bias tape finishing techniques, and begin to explore closures at this skill level.

Intermediate

Intermediate level sewing patterns focus on more precision sewing. In this skill level, you'll learn specialty closures. Intermediate patterns also introduce the skills needed for simple lingerie and athletic wear projects.

Advanced

Advanced sewing patterns require great precision and time investment. You'll find tailored pieces in this category with elevated details like bound buttonholes and welt pockets.

Description

You asked for more shorts! We wanted to give you something different than the shorts already in the Seamwork catalog. These shorts have a cool, fun silhouette with a touch of vintage inspiration. Think the nineties do the forties. The Effie shorts are very classic at first glance, with a high waist and A-line fit. However, they also have little special design moments, like reoccurring curves in the pocket, hem, and waistband.

Medium to heavy weight fabrics such as denim, twill, linen, linen blends, and canvas.

Medium weight fabrics such as quilting cotton, lawn, shirting, or chambray.

All-purpose polyester sewing thread, sewing machine needle, One 5 (13 cm) (sizes 00 - 6) or 7" (18 cm) (sizes 8 - 30) coil/denim zipper, two 5/8" (15 mm) buttons or shank buttons, 7/8 yards (.8 meters) of lightweight fusible interfacing, point turner, chalk, tape, or a water-soluble pen

00 – 30

Sizing & Fit

Talia is wearing size 10 Effie shorts with no adjustments. Her measurements are 39” (99 cm), 30” (70.2 cm), 41 1/2” (105.4 cm), and she is 5’9 1/2” (1.77 m) tall.

Crosby is wearing curvy size 16 Effie shorts. We shortened the rise 1” (2.5 cm) and reduced the waist ease 1/2” (12 mm). Her measurements are 46” (116.8 cm), 36 1/2” (92.7 cm), 48” (121.9), and she is 5’10” (1.78 m) tall.

00 – 30

Sizes 00-18 (Misses) are drafted for a C cup. Our size 8 fit model is 5’8”. Sizes 12-30 (Curvy) are drafted for a DD cup. Our size 20 fit model is 5’9”. Learn more about our sizing here
