Beginner

Intermediate

Intermediate level sewing patterns focus on more precision sewing. In this skill level, you'll learn specialty closures. Intermediate patterns also introduce the skills needed for simple lingerie and athletic wear projects.

Advanced

Advanced sewing patterns require great precision and time investment. You'll find tailored pieces in this category with elevated details like bound buttonholes and welt pockets.

High-Waisted Pleated Shorts

Dill is a high-waisted pleated short that combines classic tailoring with an easy, everyday feel. Designed to sit at the natural waist, its flattering A-line silhouette skims away from the body with a roomy leg opening that feels comfortable, polished, and effortless to wear.

Thoughtful tailoring details give Dill a refined finish. Front pleats create soft shaping through the waist and hips, while back darts help achieve a flattering fit. A fitted waistband features an extended tab closure with a button and zipper fly, and belt loops—including a distinctive crossed belt loop at the center back—offer the opportunity to style the shorts with your favorite belts.

In-seam pockets keep the design practical without disrupting the clean lines, and a deep double-fold hem adds weight and structure to the silhouette. Whether paired with a simple tank, a crisp button-up, or a lightweight sweater, Dill is a versatile warm-weather staple you’ll reach for year after year.

Medium weight to heavy weight woven fabrics such as cotton twill, chino, linen, linen blends, denim, suitings, and corduroy.

Lightweight woven linings such as cotton lawn,cotton shirting, cotton poplin, acetate, rayon, or silk.

All-purpose polyester sewing thread, all-purpose sewing machine needle, one 5" (12.7 cm) zipper sizes 00 - 10; One 6" (15.2 cm) zipper sizes 12 - 30, two 5/8" (15 mm) buttons, 1 yard (1 meter) fusible interfacing, and topstitching thread.

00 – 30

Sizing & Fit

Amy is wearing the Dill shorts in a size 6, graded to a 2 at the waist. Her measurements are waist: 26" (66 cm), hip: 38" (96.5 cm), and she is 5' 11" (180.3 cm) tall.

Tambrie is wearing the Dill shorts in a size 16 from our 12 -30 size range. We add 3/4" to the waist and hip, made a full rear adjustment, and reduced the rise depth by 3/4". Her measurements are waist: 37 3/4" (96 cm), hip: 48 1/2" (123.2 cm), and she is 5' 8" (172.7 cm) tall.

00 – 30

Sizes 00-18 (Misses) are drafted for a C cup. Our size 8 fit model is 5’8”. Sizes 12-30 (Curvy) are drafted for a DD cup. Our size 20 fit model is 5’9”. Learn more about our sizing here
