Beginner

Beginner sewing patterns teach the most foundational sewing techniques. These patterns focus on the basics like sewing and finishing straight and curved seams, hemming, and simple shaping methods such as darts and gathers. In addition, beginner patterns omit closures, making them perfect if you are new to sewing or are looking for a quick and easy make.

Advanced Beginner

Advanced Beginner sewing patterns expand on the skills learned at the beginner level, helping you to build confidence and range as a sewer. You'll find simple knitwear projects, bias tape finishing techniques, and begin to explore closures at this skill level.

Intermediate

Intermediate level sewing patterns focus on more precision sewing. In this skill level, you'll learn specialty closures. Intermediate patterns also introduce the skills needed for simple lingerie and athletic wear projects.

Advanced

Advanced sewing patterns require great precision and time investment. You'll find tailored pieces in this category with elevated details like bound buttonholes and welt pockets.

Description

High waisted flared pant sewing pattern

Don’t be afraid to sew some flare. Chelsea is a hip, classic pair of flared jeans with all sorts of details to hug your curves and show off a touch of retro style. They feature a high rise, tabbed belt loops secured with rivets, double darts at the back, and a flare that begins right below the knee.

The secret to Chelsea’s great fit is a fabric with a bit of stretch and a deep-set zipper fly that won’t peek open while you’re wearing them. If this is your first pair of jeans, you’ll learn all the techniques you need to sew your own closet full of denim you’ll wear for years.

Fabric & Supplies

Medium to heavy weight stretch woven fabrics with 10% stretch, denim, twill, or corduroy.

All-purpose polyester thread, topstitching thread, sewing machine needle for stretch wovens, coil zipper, 1 yard of lightweight fusible knit interfacing, point turner, 5/8" tack button, rivets.

Refer to size chart for amount of fabric needed for your size.

00 – 30

Sizing & Fit

Sophia is wearing size 0 Chelsea jeans. We graded to a 2 at the hip and thigh and added 2” (5.1 cm) to the inseam. Her measurements are 25 1/4", (64.1 cm) 36 1/4" (92 cm) and her thigh is 20 1/2” (52.1 cm). She is 5'8" (1.73 m) tall.

Daron is wearing size 20 Chelsea jeans with 1/2” (12 mm) added to the inseam. Her measurements are 42" (106.7 cm), 51 1/2" (130.8 cm), and her thigh is 30 3/4” (78.2 cm). She is 5'10" (1.78 m) tall.

00 – 30

Sizes 00-18 (Misses) are drafted for a C cup. Our size 8 fit model is 5’8”. Sizes 12-30 (Curvy) are drafted for a DD cup. Our size 20 fit model is 5’9”. Learn more about our sizing here
