We created our skill levels according to the techniques required to sew each pattern, but our patterns will teach you everything so don't be afraid to sew above your skill level!

Beginner

Beginner sewing patterns teach the most foundational sewing techniques. These patterns focus on the basics like sewing and finishing straight and curved seams, hemming, and simple shaping methods such as darts and gathers. In addition, beginner patterns omit closures, making them perfect if you are new to sewing or are looking for a quick and easy make.

Advanced Beginner

Advanced Beginner sewing patterns expand on the skills learned at the beginner level, helping you to build confidence and range as a sewer. You'll find simple knitwear projects, bias tape finishing techniques, and begin to explore closures at this skill level.

Intermediate

Intermediate level sewing patterns focus on more precision sewing. In this skill level, you'll learn specialty closures. Intermediate patterns also introduce the skills needed for simple lingerie and athletic wear projects.

Advanced

Advanced sewing patterns require great precision and time investment. You'll find tailored pieces in this category with elevated details like bound buttonholes and welt pockets.

    Shaped Tote Bag

    Sorrel is a fully lined tote bag designed with soft shaping and structure for everyday use. Darted construction gives the bag its three-dimensional sculpted silhouette, and a rounded base that tapers toward the opening creates a modern, easy-to-carry shape.

    Clean finishing details elevate the interior and exterior alike, with a fully lined construction and a self-facing along the top edge for a polished finish. An interior pocket, neatly set into the facing seam, is perfect for small essentials. Two shoulder straps are designed to fit comfortably over the shoulder, making Sorrel a practical companion for daily errands, work, or travel.

    Whether sewn in sturdy canvas, linen blends, or soft denim, Sorrel is a versatile tote you’ll reach for again and again.

  • Fabric & Supplies

    Heavyweight woven fabrics such as canvas, twill, denim, linen, linen blends, duck cloth, waxed canvas, and faux leather, or medium weight woven fabrics such as quilting cotton, chambray, oxford, or madras. If using medium weight fabrics, interfacing is recommended.

    All-purpose polyester sewing thread, and an all-purpose sewing machine needle. Optional: 2 1/2 yards (2.3 meters) medium weight fusible interfacing (see fabric recommendations below).
