Beginner

Beginner sewing patterns teach the most foundational sewing techniques. These patterns focus on the basics like sewing and finishing straight and curved seams, hemming, and simple shaping methods such as darts and gathers. In addition, beginner patterns omit closures, making them perfect if you are new to sewing or are looking for a quick and easy make.

Advanced Beginner

Advanced Beginner sewing patterns expand on the skills learned at the beginner level, helping you to build confidence and range as a sewer. You'll find simple knitwear projects, bias tape finishing techniques, and begin to explore closures at this skill level.

Intermediate

Intermediate level sewing patterns focus on more precision sewing. In this skill level, you'll learn specialty closures. Intermediate patterns also introduce the skills needed for simple lingerie and athletic wear projects.

Advanced

Advanced sewing patterns require great precision and time investment. You'll find tailored pieces in this category with elevated details like bound buttonholes and welt pockets.

Description

Blazers aren't just for businesswear, so layer them with almost any outfit. Keaton is a double-breasted blazer with a slim, relaxed fit. It has fun details to sew, like a notch collar, two-piece sleeves with staggered decorative buttons, lightweight shoulder pads, and a bagged lining. This blazer also has some soft tailoring to add to your sewing skills. Knit interfacing provides structure to the chest and upper back, and woven interfacing reinforces the collar.

We love this blazer because it offers a beginner-friendly approach to a more advanced sewing project. Sometimes it’s so inspiring to experience a challenging sewing project step by step. This blazer really comes together easily, but you’ll be so impressed with the finished garment!

Fabric & Supplies

Medium to heavy weight woven fabrics such as linen, denim, canvas, suitings, corduroy, and velveteen.

Light to medium weight lining fabrics such as crepe de chine, rayon bemberg, acetate lining, or polyester lining.

All-purpose polyester sewing thread, sewing machine needle, hand-sewing needle, point turner, 1/2" (13 mm) shoulder pads, four 3/4" (20 mm) buttons, one 1/2" (13 mm) clear button, six 3/8" (10 mm) buttons, 2 yards (1.8 meters) of knit fusible interfacing, and 1 1/8 yards (1 meter) of woven fusible interfacing.
