Beginner

Beginner sewing patterns teach the most foundational sewing techniques. These patterns focus on the basics like sewing and finishing straight and curved seams, hemming, and simple shaping methods such as darts and gathers. In addition, beginner patterns omit closures, making them perfect if you are new to sewing or are looking for a quick and easy make.

Advanced Beginner

Advanced Beginner sewing patterns expand on the skills learned at the beginner level, helping you to build confidence and range as a sewer. You'll find simple knitwear projects, bias tape finishing techniques, and begin to explore closures at this skill level.

Intermediate

Intermediate level sewing patterns focus on more precision sewing. In this skill level, you'll learn specialty closures. Intermediate patterns also introduce the skills needed for simple lingerie and athletic wear projects.

Advanced

Advanced sewing patterns require great precision and time investment. You'll find tailored pieces in this category with elevated details like bound buttonholes and welt pockets.

Description

Corset dress sewing pattern

The Emma dress has a little secret on the back. Emma is a sleeveless fit and flare dress with corset-inspired details. It features a fitted, lined bodice with princess seams, a dramatic scoop neck, and a laced back. There's a modesty placket at the center back behind the lacing. The full A-line skirt has princess seams and meets the bodice with a curved front waistline detail. The dress closes with an invisible side zip.

Fabric & Supplies

Stable medium weight woven fabrics such as linen, linen blends, sateen, chambray, shirting, quilting cotton, rayon, brocade, tafetta, and satin.

All-purpose polyester sewing thread, sewing machine needle, 1/8 yards (.2 meters) of lightweight fusible interfacing, one invisible zipper - sizes 00-8: 14" ; sizes 10-24: 16" ; sizes 26-30: 18", eight 1/4" eyelets and 1 1/2" yards ribbon or cord.

Refer to size chart for amount of fabric needed for your size.

00 – 30

Sizing & Fit

Janiah is wearing a size 0 graded to a 4 at the waist and a 6 at the hips. We did a broad shoulder and upper bust adjustment and slightly reduced the curve at the bust. Her measurements are 27 1/2” (69.9 cm), 38” (96.5 cm), and she is 5’7” (1.70 m) tall.

Morgan is wearing a size 20 Emma dress with no adjustments. Her measurements are 48” (121.92 cm), 41” (104.14 cm), 52” (132.08 cm), and she is 5’9” (1.75 m) tall.

00 – 30

Sizes 00-18 (Misses) are drafted for a C cup. Our size 8 fit model is 5’8”. Sizes 12-30 (Curvy) are drafted for a DD cup. Our size 20 fit model is 5’9”. Learn more about our sizing here
