Beginner

Beginner sewing patterns teach the most foundational sewing techniques. These patterns focus on the basics like sewing and finishing straight and curved seams, hemming, and simple shaping methods such as darts and gathers. In addition, beginner patterns omit closures, making them perfect if you are new to sewing or are looking for a quick and easy make.

Advanced Beginner

Advanced Beginner sewing patterns expand on the skills learned at the beginner level, helping you to build confidence and range as a sewer. You'll find simple knitwear projects, bias tape finishing techniques, and begin to explore closures at this skill level.

Intermediate

Intermediate level sewing patterns focus on more precision sewing. In this skill level, you'll learn specialty closures. Intermediate patterns also introduce the skills needed for simple lingerie and athletic wear projects.

Advanced

Advanced sewing patterns require great precision and time investment. You'll find tailored pieces in this category with elevated details like bound buttonholes and welt pockets.

Description

Lined coat sewing pattern

Can you imagine a more satisfying sewing project than a chic coat? Denise is a lined coat with curved princess seams that intersect the neckline, closing with 1” buttons along the center front. This coat hits at the knee, so it looks lovely worn layered over jeans, skirts, or dresses. This pattern is an ideal introduction if you’ve never sewn a bagged lining before. It has simple construction, and our instructions will walk you through each step. And yes, it has in-seam pockets!

Fabric & Supplies

Medium to heavy weight fabrics such as coatings, canvas, denim, and twill.

Lightweight woven linings such as acetate, rayon, or silk

All-purpose sewing thread, sewing machine needle, lightweight fusible inter facing, 1" buttons.

Refer to size chart for amount of fabric needed for your size.

Sizing & Fit

Maya wears a size 4 with a broad shoulder adjustment, added 2" to the sleeve length and 4" added to the body length.

Crosby wears a size 16 graded to an 18 at the shoulders and bust, with 3/4" added to the sleeve length and 1" to the body length.

00 – 30

Sizes 00-18 (Misses) are drafted for a C cup. Our size 8 fit model is 5’8”. Sizes 12-30 (Curvy) are drafted for a DD cup. Our size 20 fit model is 5’9”. Learn more about our sizing here
