Beginner

Beginner sewing patterns teach the most foundational sewing techniques. These patterns focus on the basics like sewing and finishing straight and curved seams, hemming, and simple shaping methods such as darts and gathers. In addition, beginner patterns omit closures, making them perfect if you are new to sewing or are looking for a quick and easy make.

Advanced Beginner

Advanced Beginner sewing patterns expand on the skills learned at the beginner level, helping you to build confidence and range as a sewer. You'll find simple knitwear projects, bias tape finishing techniques, and begin to explore closures at this skill level.

Intermediate

Intermediate level sewing patterns focus on more precision sewing. In this skill level, you'll learn specialty closures. Intermediate patterns also introduce the skills needed for simple lingerie and athletic wear projects.

Advanced

Advanced sewing patterns require great precision and time investment. You'll find tailored pieces in this category with elevated details like bound buttonholes and welt pockets.

Description

The mini shirt dress sewing pattern

Chantelle is a body-skimming shirt dress with princess seams. It buttons up the center front, which is finished with a facing. This pattern also features short sleeves, a notched collar, and side seam pockets. Depending on your fabric choice, you could sew a modern denim dress, bring some color-blocked vibes from the '60s, or choose a ditzy floral print to go full '90s.

Fabric & Supplies

Medium weight woven fabrics such as linen, denim, chambray, batiste, lawn, rayon challis, cupro, and Tencel.

All-purpose polyester sewing thread, sewing machine needle, 1 3/4" yards (1.6 meters) of lightweight fusible interfacing, sizes 00 - 18: Eight 5/8" (16mm) buttons or snaps; sizes 12 - 30: Nine 5/8" (16 mm) buttons or snaps, point turner

Refer to size chart for amount of fabric needed for your size.

00 – 30

Sizing & Fit

Sophia is wearing a size 2 with a broad shoulder adjustment. We also added .5" to sleeve length, added 1.5" to dress length and increased the hip .5". Her measurements are 34", 25.5", 37" and she is 5'8"

Morgan is wearing a size 20 with no adjustments. Her measurements are 48”, 41”, 52” and she is 5'9".

00 – 30

Sizes 00-18 (Misses) are drafted for a C cup. Our size 8 fit model is 5’8”. Sizes 12-30 (Curvy) are drafted for a DD cup. Our size 20 fit model is 5’9”. Learn more about our sizing here
