Beginner

Beginner sewing patterns teach the most foundational sewing techniques. These patterns focus on the basics like sewing and finishing straight and curved seams, hemming, and simple shaping methods such as darts and gathers. In addition, beginner patterns omit closures, making them perfect if you are new to sewing or are looking for a quick and easy make.

Advanced Beginner

Advanced Beginner sewing patterns expand on the skills learned at the beginner level, helping you to build confidence and range as a sewer. You'll find simple knitwear projects, bias tape finishing techniques, and begin to explore closures at this skill level.

Intermediate

Intermediate level sewing patterns focus on more precision sewing. In this skill level, you'll learn specialty closures. Intermediate patterns also introduce the skills needed for simple lingerie and athletic wear projects.

Advanced

Advanced sewing patterns require great precision and time investment. You'll find tailored pieces in this category with elevated details like bound buttonholes and welt pockets.

Description

The tailored overcoat

Create something lasting for yourself with the Bay overcoat. Bay is a classic tailored coat that will always stay in style. This sewing pattern lets you slow down and enjoy exploring soft tailoring techniques and traditional details. Bay features a comfortable tailored fit, notch collar, two-piece sleeves, shoulder pads, sleeve head, generous welt pockets, and a functional vent, and is fully lined. This is a great project for learning how to do a bagged lining if you've never done it before. Make Bay in a sophisticated neutral coating, or go bold with an unexpected color or even a print. Either way, you’ll have a coat you’ll love to wear season after season.

All-purpose polyester sewing thread, sewing machine needle, hand-sewing needle, point turner, felt or fleece, three 1” buttons, knit

00 – 30

Sizing & Fit

Sophia is wearing a size 2 Bay coat.We added 1 1/2" to the body length and 1 1/4" to the sleeve length. Her measurements are bust: 34" (86.3 cm), waist: 25" (63.5 cm), hip: 36 1/2" (92.7 cm), and she is 5' 8" (172.7 cm) tall.

Crosby is wearing a a size 18 from our 12-30 size range. We graded to a 16 at the hip. Her measurements are bust: 45 1/2" (115.5 cm), waist: 36" (91.5 cm), hip: 47 3/8" (115.5 cm), and she is 5' 10" (177.8 cm) tall.

00 – 30

Sizes 00-18 (Misses) are drafted for a C cup. Our size 8 fit model is 5’8”. Sizes 12-30 (Curvy) are drafted for a DD cup. Our size 20 fit model is 5’9”. Learn more about our sizing here
