Ruby is a pull-over tank dress with a soft, chemise-inspired silhouette and an easy, romantic feel. Designed for everyday wear with a touch of vintage charm, it’s the kind of piece that feels relaxed yet thoughtfully shaped.

Ruby features an upper bust band that offers gentle structure, while elastic encased at the center back adds subtle shaping and comfort through the bodice. Wide shoulder straps keep this dress bra-friendly, and a drawstring waist allows you to define the fit to your preference.

From there, a straight skirt falls to just below the knee, creating a simple, elongating silhouette that moves effortlessly through the day.

Whether sewn in a crisp cotton, airy linen, or a soft floral print, Ruby is designed to feel like an effortless staple with a quiet sense of romance—easy to wear, easy to style, and easy to make your own.

Ilisa is wearing the Ruby dress in a size 2. We added 3/4" to the skirt length and 1" to the yoke width. Her measurements are bust: 34" (86.4 cm), waist: 25 1/2" (64.8 cm), hip: 38 1/2" (97.8 cm), and she is 5'9" (175.3 cm) tall.

Alexandra is wearing the Ruby dress in a size 18 from our 12–30 size range. We added 1/2" to the yoke width, moved the straps in 3/8" each, and reduced the skirt length by 1". Her measurements are bust: 45 1/2" (115.6 cm), waist: 38" (96.5 cm), hip: 49 1/2" (125.7 cm), and she is 5'5" (165.1 cm) tall.

FABRIC AND FIT

Fabric recommendations

Ruby is designed for light to medium weight woven fabrics that balance softness with a bit of structure. Linen and chambray create an easy, everyday feel, while batiste and lawn feel light and airy for warmer weather.

For added texture and interest, try clip dot, seersucker, double gauze, or shirting fabrics. Quilting cottons and poplin create a slightly crisper silhouette, while rayon challis, rayon crepe, cupro, silk, and Tencel add fluid drape and movement for a softer, more romantic look.

Because Ruby has such a versatile silhouette, your fabric choice can completely transform the final feel of the dress—from casual and lived-in to elevated and refined.

Fitting tips

Ruby has a forgiving fit thanks to the elastic at the back band and the adjustable drawstring waist, making it comfortable and easy to customize.

For the best fit, focus on refining the bodice and skirt length to suit your height and preferred proportions. You may also want to double-check the strap length before final construction to ensure a comfortable, personalized fit through the shoulders and neckline.
