Beginner

Intermediate

Intermediate level sewing patterns focus on more precision sewing. In this skill level, you'll learn specialty closures. Intermediate patterns also introduce the skills needed for simple lingerie and athletic wear projects.

Advanced

Advanced sewing patterns require great precision and time investment. You'll find tailored pieces in this category with elevated details like bound buttonholes and welt pockets.

Description

Popover Shirt

The Thyme Shirt is a popover shirt with a band collar, designed to feel classic, comfortable, and quietly polished. Semi-fitted through the bust with a straight cut through the body, Thyme strikes an easy balance between structure and ease, perfect for everyday wear.

Design details are subtle but purposeful. Bust darts shape the front without feeling fussy, while a lined shoulder yoke and center-back box pleat add a polished finish and ease of movement. A partial placket at the center-front neckline keeps the silhouette relaxed, complemented by a simple band collar and a classic chest pocket.

The sleeves are finished with a cuff and placket for a familiar menswear feel, making Thyme a satisfying project that still feels approachable and wearable.

Fabric & Supplies

Light to medium weight woven fabrics such as shirting, poplin, chambray, linen, linen blends, cotton lawn, cotton voile, cotton gauze, Swiss dot, rayon challis, rayon crepe, and silk.

All-purpose polyester sewing thread, sewing machine needle, hand-sewing needle, 1 1/4 yards (1.2 meters) lightweight fusible interfacing, eight 5/8” (15 mm) shank buttons, and a point turner.

Refer to size chart for amount of fabric needed for your size.

00 – 30

Sizing & Fit

Ilisa is wearing the Thyme popover shirt in a size 2 graded to a 6 at the shoulders, and a 6 at the hips. We also lengthened the sleeve by 3/4" . Her measurements are bust: 34" (86.4 cm), waist: 25 1/2" (64.8 cm), hip: 38" (96.5 cm), and she is 5'9" (175.3 cm) tall.

Iman is wearing the Thyme popover shirt in a size 14 from our 12 - 30 size range. We increased the bust by 1", and added 1/2" to the sleeve length. Her measurements are bust: 43" (109.2 cm), waist: 35" (88.9 cm), hip: 46" (116.8 cm), and she is 5'9 1/2" (176.5 cm) tall.

00 – 30

Sizes 00-18 (Misses) are drafted for a C cup. Our size 8 fit model is 5’8”. Sizes 12-30 (Curvy) are drafted for a DD cup. Our size 20 fit model is 5’9”. Learn more about our sizing here
