Beginner

Beginner sewing patterns teach the most foundational sewing techniques. These patterns focus on the basics like sewing and finishing straight and curved seams, hemming, and simple shaping methods such as darts and gathers. In addition, beginner patterns omit closures, making them perfect if you are new to sewing or are looking for a quick and easy make.

Advanced Beginner

Advanced Beginner sewing patterns expand on the skills learned at the beginner level, helping you to build confidence and range as a sewer. You'll find simple knitwear projects, bias tape finishing techniques, and begin to explore closures at this skill level.

Intermediate

Intermediate level sewing patterns focus on more precision sewing. In this skill level, you'll learn specialty closures. Intermediate patterns also introduce the skills needed for simple lingerie and athletic wear projects.

Advanced

Advanced sewing patterns require great precision and time investment. You'll find tailored pieces in this category with elevated details like bound buttonholes and welt pockets.

Fabric & Supplies

Medium weight to heavyweight fabrics with at least 30% stretch, such as ponte, double knit, merino jersey, French terry, rib knits, and sweater knits.

All-purpose polyester sewing thread, ballpoint sewing machine needle, ballpoint twin needle, six 1/2" (13 mm) buttons, 1/8 yard (.2 yards) fusible knit interfacing, 1/4 yards, and (.3 meters) of knit stay tape, 1/4" (6 mm) clear plastic elastic, or knit interfacing

00 – 30

Sizing & Fit

Cierra is wearing the Fig cardigan in a size 6, graded to a size 8 at the hip. We made a broad shoulder adjustment, we lowered the armhole, and added 1/2" to the body length and sleeve length. Her measurements are bust: 35 1/2" (90.2 cm), waist: 27" (68.6 cm), hip: 39" (99 cm), and she is 5'9" (175.3 cm) tall.

Tambrie is wearing the Fig cardigan in a size 16 from our 12 - 30 size range. We made a narrow shoulder adjustment, reduced the sleeve width, and added 3/4" to the sleeve length. Her measurements are bust: 44 1/2" (113 cm), waist: 37" (94 cm), hip: 48" (122 cm), and she is 5'8" (172.7 cm) tall.

00 – 30

Sizes 00-18 (Misses) are drafted for a C cup. Our size 8 fit model is 5’8”. Sizes 12-30 (Curvy) are drafted for a DD cup. Our size 20 fit model is 5’9”. Learn more about our sizing here
