Beginner

Beginner sewing patterns teach the most foundational sewing techniques. These patterns focus on the basics like sewing and finishing straight and curved seams, hemming, and simple shaping methods such as darts and gathers. In addition, beginner patterns omit closures, making them perfect if you are new to sewing or are looking for a quick and easy make.

Advanced Beginner

Advanced Beginner sewing patterns expand on the skills learned at the beginner level, helping you to build confidence and range as a sewer. You'll find simple knitwear projects, bias tape finishing techniques, and begin to explore closures at this skill level.

Intermediate

Intermediate level sewing patterns focus on more precision sewing. In this skill level, you'll learn specialty closures. Intermediate patterns also introduce the skills needed for simple lingerie and athletic wear projects.

Advanced

Advanced sewing patterns require great precision and time investment. You'll find tailored pieces in this category with elevated details like bound buttonholes and welt pockets.

Button-down sewing pattern

Whether you're looking for a comfy and casual look or a stylish statement piece, this pattern has got you covered (literally). Roan is an oversized button-down tunic with a bunch of details that add a touch of sophistication and a loose fit that ensures maximum comfort. It has dropped shoulders, a two-piece button-down collar, a sewn-on button placket, cuffs, and two oversized chest patch pockets. You'll also find a seam at the center back, a curved hemline, and a button on the back collar. All these details will help you grow your sewing skills while you make something you'll want to wear every day.

Fabric & Supplies

Light to medium weight woven fabrics such as shirting, chambray, linen, linen blends, flannel, lawn, voile, rayon challis, rayon crepe, Tencel, poplin, Tencel twill, and silk crepe.

All-purpose polyester sewing thread, sewing machine needle, hand sewing needle, lightweight fusible interfacing, fourteen 5/8” (15 mm) buttons, point turner.

Refer to size chart for amount of fabric needed for your size.

00 – 30

Sizing & Fit

Amy is wearing a size 6 with 3/4" (19 mm) added to the body length and 1 3/4" (44 cm) added to the sleeve length. Her measurements are 36" (91.4 cm), 29" (73.6 cm), 42" (106.7 cm), and she is 5'11" (1.80 m) tall.

Tambrie is wearing a size 18 (from the 12-30 size range) with no adjustments. Her measurements are 45 1/2" (115.6 cm), 38" (96.5 cm), 49" (124.5 cm) and she is 5'8" (1.73 m) tall.

00 – 30

Sizes 00-18 (Misses) are drafted for a C cup. Our size 8 fit model is 5’8”. Sizes 12-30 (Curvy) are drafted for a DD cup. Our size 20 fit model is 5’9”. Learn more about our sizing here
